The result is a radio that’s designed to meet the unique needs of first responders — from its physical form to its communications capabilities. The rugged chassis is designed for functionality. The radio is narrower at the bottom to make it easy to remove from a gear belt and includes hand grips where officers are most likely to grasp it. A metal I-beam frame gives the radio more durability without cumbersome hardware. The 10-hour battery comes standard — making sure it’s ready when you need it.

The XL-200P is designed with weight in mind. The entire device weighs only 22.5 ounces, and the top-mounted switching buttons are designed for ease of use and can be customized to meet the specific user’s needs.

Because some situations are loud enough to compromise clear communication, Harris improved the audio amplifier with a custom, two-speaker woofer and tweeter design. Three internal, noise-canceling microphones also improve communications. An included Instant Recall option allows officers to replay the last incoming transmission, which reduces the need for repetition.

Not to be outdone by aesthetics, the communications capabilities also pack a punch. Improving the frequency range was a top priority during the designing of the XL-200P. The full-spectrum, multiband radio is very high frequency (VHF), ultra high frequency (UHF), 700/800 MHz, and LTE broadband compatible. It also offers single-key DES/AES encryption and has an option for FIPS certification to allow for completely secure communications. The addition of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity also ensures that the device connects with available accessories and can be easily updated.
